Giving Tuesday, established in 2012 and observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, unites organizations and individuals around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving.
Since it’s inception, the day has seen an estimated 470% increase in online donations. Last year alone, the one-day giving total topped $45 million spread across nearly 300,000 organizations, with an average gift size of $154.18.
On social, the buzz is equally strong. Last year, the hashtag #GivingTuesday netted 32.7 million Twitter impressions and over 750K mentions. For those who don’t want to do that math, that’s roughly 29,100 tweets per hour!
And this year will be even bigger.
